Kottai Darwaja Sri Veera Anjaneya Swami Temple is located at Tirupattur (Vellore District) which is surrounded by hills in all the directions The temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman (The Monkey God). The temple has a very interesting story behind its origin.

The Temple is over 500 years old and dedicated to Lord Anjaneya. The 12 feet tall deity is made out of one single stone. Kottai Darwaja Sri Veera Anjaneya Swami temple is situated in the main entrance of Kottai Sri Gajendra Varadharaja Perumal Temple (‘Kottai’ in english means ‘Fort’) and Sri Brahmeshwarar Temple (Lord Brahma has worshipped Lord Siva here).


MEANING OF DARWAJA:


The name ‘Darwaja’ means ‘Entrance’ in Hindi. As Sri Veera Anjaneya Swami is located at the main entrance of Kottai Sri Gajendra Varadharaja Perumal Temple and Sri Brahmeshwarar Temple, He is called as Kottai Darwaja Sri Veera Anjaneya Swami.

SPECIAL FEATURES OF MOOLAVAR:


Sri Vyasaraja followed unique features in the Hanuman idols he installed. You can identify the idol by keen observation of the following features.

One hand of the idol opens towards the sky or the devotee.
The other hand holds a flower called Sowgandhi
The tail of the idol goes over the head, makes a semi-circle and the end resembles like a circle
A bell hangs at the end of the tail

TEMPLE ADMINISTRATION:

The temple is managed and administered hereditarily by the HINDU RELIGIOUS AND CHARITABLE ENDOWMENTS DEPARTMENT and Sri Siriya Thiruvadi Kainkarya Trust (R) & Sri Darwaja Veera Anjaneya Swami Kaingarya Trust (R).

HISTORY:
It is said that Sri Veera Anjaneya Swami temple was built by the 15th century saint cum guru Sri Vyasaraya Swamigal (1447-1539 AD) who was also the guru of the Vijayanagara empire of those days. He was the royal preceptor of the King Krishnadevaraya, one of the most enlightened and benevolent ruler of vijayanagara empire.
